THE BLOOD BAY

This story starts with the depiction of a foolish young man crossing Wyoming and freezes to death. He did not know the brutalities of the harsh weather of Wyoming and foolishly put all his money into buying a pair of fancy boots instead of much-needed thick winter-wear.

His body was discovered the following day by three cowpunchers. One of the men, Dirt Sheets, was in desperate need of new boots and is happy to discover that the dead man has brand new boots on his feet. However, the body is so frozen that the cowpuncher cannot remove his boots. He decided to saw off the feet up to the point of the boots so that he could retrieve the boots for his own use later.

While resting for the night in old man Grice’s shack, the three men were warned of his horse with bad temperament which is inclined to bite. The next morning, Sheets wore the new boots. He discarded his own old boots together with the dead man’s feet behind the stove. He then hurriedly rushed to town to send his mother a telegraph wishing her happy birthday.

Afterward, Grice mistakenly assumed that his horse had eaten up Sheets. While fascinated that his horse could consume a raw man, he was afraid that news of this may leak out. He decided to bribe Sheets’ two friends to commit their silence on the matter. Bemused, Sheets two friends took the money and went to town to meet Sheets. They had no intention to share the money with Sheets as they deemed that Sheets has already rewarded by the dead man’s boots.

The story abruptly ended with the threesome enjoying themselves in town.

Create the five different part of plot!

Now that you have a better understanding of the setting of The Blood Bay, you will be divided into groups to create the five different parts of plot, in relation to the story.

Below is a guide on what your parts of plot should include and each part of plot should only contain two to three sentences that describes what is happening at that point of time!

There will be five groups of seven, and as a team, you are to create the Exposition, Rising Action, Climax, Falling Action and the Resolution of the story in the form of a comic strip!

The exposition has already been discussed in class, your answers for the rest of the parts of plot should follow the same structure:

EXPOSITION: Three cowpunchers found a young cowboy who has frozen to death during a freezing night & one of them (Dirt Sheets) decides to take his boots.
